Evaluation

 1)  In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media project uses the forms and conventions of our chosen genre (Comedy). We researched into the genre of comedy because that was  the film we wanted to create.  Our short film consist of four charachters. Our aim was to try to show it close to the reality . We used many mid-shots and mid close-ups in our film. We shot our scenes in an elevator which later in the film could be a social meeting point for the characters. Many members of the audience can relate to this. In our piece we have shot our first scene which is on a main road and  we have used natural daylight. The first scene which is an establishing shot starts with a pan as the car is coming towards the building. In terms of sound, the opening has no dialogue. And as the car stops outside the building, we used a high angle shot, which gives a whole view of the location. Moreover, as we shot our film in the elevator we used the low key lighting. The costumes that we chose for our actors were according to their role and profession. The business man wears a suit, the secretary wears a check shirt with galous. The gardener wears a kurta and a dhoti (villagers dress)  holding a waste bin and a pot. Also, the waiter is holding a tray and wearing a waistcoat . The props gives a clear view of the role of the charachters.

2) What have you learned from your audience feedback?
For our five and a half minute comedy film, as we researched we knew what our target audience would be. So, are target group was  above 18 as this age group would grasp the idea more easily, therefore we will be successful in conveying our message to the audience. So with this age group we have tried to maximize the outcome of the entire production. We have had mixed feedback. There did seem to be a confusion with a few scenes as we missed one shot when the gardener had to stop the elevator by putting his arm  between the door. His entry seemed too abrupt Re-shooting was going to take a lot of time and the actors were only available for one day,so we couldn't manage to cover that up.

3) How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research & planning & evaluation stages?
 Throughout this coursework we developed a number of technical skills. We were taught about different programs and technologies. We got to know about commonly used camera shots and angles, lighting, cinematography, mise-se-scene etc.We started our advance portfolio from Blogging, every task that we performed had to be posted on our blogs. While we started to work on our project we faced too many problems as we could not arrange the actors for our film, so we had to modify our script and due to part fault of our own we ended up filming quite late. Our planning and pre-production took a lot longer than it would for others and our workload trebled in size. So we were bit behind others . As we had to do research on our genre, and film we had to open up proxies as Youtube had banned in our country.  We shot our film from one DSLR, which was a big issue. Moreover, the location that was available had a very small elevator in which we had to shoot. So, it became quite difficult for us to shoot in a very congested place with four actors.

Poster

As a part of the ancillary task we had to design a poster and a review page for our film. Creating a film poster was not an easy job to do.Through our poster we had to show the meaning of our film. As our film lies under the genre of comedy, and is shot in an elevator, we decided to take an image that elevator and give it a cartoon-ish effect. At first we decided to put all our charachters in the poster, but as we started to work on it, it started to become quite difficult. The actors couldn't fit well and we started to put the font and different effects it started to look a bit messy. It did not come out the way we wanted it to be. So we switched to the plan. As we got done with the shoot, I went to the location and took a few pictures of the elevator for the poster.
This is the image which we chose for our  poster:

We chose this image and adjusted its contrast levels,brightness in photoshop. Then we added the font, using red and black colour as they were becoming prominent,we used simple font for the title.Then we added the
tagline,releasing date,cast,name of our production company and other details.And this is how our final poster turned out to be.

Film Poster Reserch

Location for the shoot

In film making, a location is any place where a film crew will be filming actors or recording their dialogues. Film makers often choose to shoot on location because they believe that greater realism can be achieved in a "real" place, however location shooting is also often motivated by the film's budge. However, many films shoot interior scenes on a sound stage and exterior scenes on location.

The area we are shooting is in a busy building.

Title

The title of our short film is 'Elevator. This is a pshycological thriller short film which revolves around a group of people who get trapped in an elevator and are anxiously waiting for help to arrive,with no network coverage and power shortage.They are unable to stay contact with anybody.With no space to freely move about and therefore gets frustrated.Only time will tell if the passengers will seek help or remained trapped.

The font we have selected for the title is earth kid. Our genre is pshycological thriller so we wanted our font to be slightly faded or distorted effect as we wanted to give a dull or slight horror impression to the audience.

Short Film Deconstruction 3

-->
The third film that I chose is ‘the strangers’. This film is shot by Erez Tadmor and Guy Nattiv. This is an action adventure film.In the first shots there is not enough lighting, which creates a suspense or tense atmosphere. There are a lot of extreme close-ups to catch the facial expressions of all the characters. There are a lot of shots that does not follow the rule of thirds. The background around the character is dark and the main focus is on their faces.

Short Film deconstruction 1

The first short film that I choose is ‘GoodBye’.This film is of 4mins and 40 seconds.In the first few scenes the more focus is to potray the facial expressions of the charachter.To have a more clear view of this they gave the close-up of the charachter's face.
->

Low key lighting is used.There are more shadowy areas which is representing a sad or dreppressing mood.However,apart from the lighting, there is more focus on the background music,which creates a mood and it also describes the feelings or what the person is going through.
