Short Film Deconstruction 2

<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->

-->The second film that I chose is ‘Love Field’. This short film is by Mathew Ratthe . As the film starts the focus is mostly on the background music which gives the audience an impression of a suspense or a horror film. There are a lot of extreme close-ups not on the charachters but mainly on the props that are used in the film which are also known as mise se scene. There is high key lighting used in the film throughout the film which is about 5mins and 29 secs.

Few days back we were scheduled to visit the sets of one of the famous director of our country, Syed Noor, at Paragon Academy Of Performing Arts.

The aim for organising this trip was to know about shooting of a movie,to get to know different types of camera shots ,angles and lightning. How lighting effects are created and various other aspects of videography.. Sir Syed Noor also showed us his entire set of a film, the lights that are used, the editing and dubbing room.It was a great experience learning about the new and differrent techniques used in film making. We got to know about the the things we should remember while we are working on a project.

Research on Genres

Comedy

is delibretly made to amuse and provoke laughter by exaggerating the situation, the language, action, relationships and characters. It a is very open genre. It can be divided into many sub-genres based on the source of humour, the method of delivery, and the context in which it is delivered.

The movie I chose is

You Again:As a teenager Marni was the kind of girl no guy would go near andf was bullied by girls, and no one was meaner to her than Joana the head cheerleader. Years later, she's a successful woman with a good job. When she goes home for her brother's wedding she discovers that her brother is marrying Joana. When they meet she wants Joana to apologize for the way she treated her but Joana feigns ignorance. When Marni tells her mother, Gail about her and Joana, Gail tells her to try and put it behind her. But when Gail learns that her aunt Mona is her old friend Ramona who was her friend in high school whom she had confrontation with years ago, Gail feels like Mona is trying to thumb her success in her nose. When Marni learns that Joana does remember her she sets to expose her to her brother.  The resented Marni seeks revenge and decides to expose the past of Joanna to Will to protect her brother and force him to call off his wedding while Gail begins a personal dispute with Ramona.

Marni recalls being ruthlessly bullied by another female student, shortly before being promoted as the Vice-President of her organization. She then returns home to attend her brother's wedding. She is shocked to find out that his fiancée is none other than Joanna, the girl who bullied her.. Her attempts to warn Will go in vain, and when confronted, Joanna refuses to tender an apology. She will soon discover that the the nightmare she experienced at school may well have a sequel.

The next movie I chose is 'The Dictator'

For years, the North African Republic has been ruled by General Haffaz Aladeen, a childish, , anti-western who surrounds himself with female bodyguards , refuses to allow Wadiyan oil to be sold internationally and is working on developing nuclear weapons. After the United Nations security council resolves to intervene militarily, Aladeen travels to New York City to address the council. Shortly after arriving, he is kidnapped by Clayton, a hitman hired by his uncle Tamir. Tamir then replaces Aladeen with a mentally-challenged political decoy named Efawadh, whom he intends to manipulate into signing a document demoticrizing Wadiya and opening the country's oil fields for business. Aladeen escapes after Clayton accidentally burns himself to death, but his huge beard has been shaved off by Clayton, making him practically unrecognizable. He encounters activist Zoey, who offers him a job at her alternative lifestyle.Aladeen refuses the offer and travels to New York's "Little Wadiya", which is populated by refugees from his country. There, he encounters "Nuclear" Nadal, the former chief of Wadiya's nuclear weapons program and head procurer of women, whom Aladeen thought he had previously executed. Nadal explains that Wadiyan rebels infiltrated his intelligence unit, sending into exile all the people he had ordered to be executed.

Wanting his old job back, Nadal promises to help Aladeen thwart Tamir's plot and regain his position as 'rightful' dictator, on condition that Aladeen makes him head of Wadiya's program again. Aladeen agrees and accepts Zoey's job offer, as she is catering at the hotel where the signing is to occur. Turning around Zoey's struggling business, Aladeen begins imposing strict schedules on everyone. However, Aladeen's relationship with Zoey becomes strained after he reveals his true identity. After acquiring a new beard taken from a corpse, At the signing ceremony, he tears up Tamir's document in front of the UN delegation, and holds an impassioned speech praising the virtues of dictatorship, drawing unintended parallels to current issues within the United States. However, upon seeing Zoey in the room, he declares his love for her and, knowing Zoey's strongly-held views, vows to democratize his country and open up Wadiya's oil fields for business, but in a way where the general populace will benefit.
A year later, Wadiya holds its first democratic electionsAfterwards, he marries Zoey.Scenes during the credits show Aladeen's convoy.

Horror:

A Nightmare at Elm street is a movie directed by Sameul Bayer. This movie is about a group of teenagers pay the price for actions taken by their parents, after they burn a man to death who was a killer, but the man's spirit is not erased and has the ability to enter the teenagers dreams where he can exact his revenge.

Dawn Of Dead: is the movie directed by Zack Snydner.T his movie is about a small group of tv employees and their swat team friends attempt to flee a city where zombies have taken over, eventually settling in a shopping mall, where they have everything they need to survive, if they can secure the mall from other zombies and groups of looters from getting in too

Lighting.

Lights are one of the most important aspect of cinematography.Lighting can change the effect and mood of a scene. Each light creates different atmosphere in a scene. Bright light draws the viewers eye. A scene can be lit by natural light or using powerful artifical light. The way a scene is lit influences how the audience will react emotionally to your movie.

There are two types of lightning:

High-key lighting is a style of lightning for film or photography that aims to reduce the lightning ratio present in the scene. This is where the light is balanced in a scene. The image is bright without any contrast levels.High key lightning is mostly used in a joyful or happy environment.

Low-key lighting is a style of lightning for film or photography. It consists of not very adequate light, yhe image created is usually dark. It has shadowy areas. It creates a gloomy atmosphere,to create a sad, depressing or a horror scene.

Back light: Backlighting refers to the process of illuminating the subject from the back. This causes the edges of the subject to glow, while the other areas remain darker. It also makes the image look sharper and helps to provide separation between the subject and its background .The backlight can be a natural or artificial source of light. The back light is usually placed directly behind the subject .

Key light is the most important light which should be used in a lighting setup. The purpose of the key light is to highlight the form and dimension of the subject. It is used to fill the shadows created by the key so that the image doesn't look so dark. It will much brighter.

Fill light: is used to reduce the contrast of a scene and provide some illumination for the areas of the image that are in shadow. The fill light is often softer and less intense than the key light.

Cinematography

Cinematography includes camera shots, camera angles, camera movement and lighting. Use the term cinematography to group all of these together.

Today we were taught about different shots and angles. We got to know about various types of camera angles, camera movement.lighting etc.We got to know what Lead room/Nose room is.The thing we should keep in mind while taking a shot is,we should not leave dead space in the frame. This is done while taking a close shot.Lighting can change the effect and mood of a scene.

Long Short: is a large landscape that covers all the area in a frame. It gives the viewer a more specific idea of setting. A long shot may show the viewers the area where the action will take place.

Mid-Short: contains the character from the waist up. From this shot, viewers can see the charactersfaces more clearly as well as their interaction with other characters.

Close-Up:has just one character's face. This focuses more on the charachters facial expressions and emotions.

Extreme Close-up:has one part of a character's face or other object. This type of shot creates an intense mood and provides interaction between the audience and the viewer.

Birds eye view:This shows a scene from directly overhead, a very unnatural and strange angle.

Eye Level:  the camera is positioned as though it is a human actually observing a scene, the charachter's heads are on a level with the focus.

Low Angle: Low angles help give a sense of confusion to a viewer, of powerlessness within the action of a scene. The added height of the object may make it inspire fear and insecurity in the viewer, who is psychologically dominated by the figure on the screen.

Over the shoulder Angle: is a shot of someone or something taken from the perspective from the shoulder of another person. The back of the shoulder and head of this person is used to frame the image the camera is pointing toward. This type of shot is very common when two characters are having a dicussion.
